A gift for my father. I made this for him for Christmas many years ago. My dad and I shared a love of Tom & Jerry when I was young and they are still sentimental favorites for us both.
4.5" x 6" made with Canson Mi-Teintes papers
Tom & Jerry created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera while at MGM.
How much fun is this!? I love it! Even though it looks like Tom may get his way with landing Jerry on that sandwich you just know that somehow the little guy will get out it. Maybe he'll land on the fork instead and somehow those olives will smack Jerry in the face?
Great colors - such warmth and very reminiscent of what I remember seeing in the cartoons.
And I think one of my favorite parts is the entire window area - from the blinds to the sill. Great depth you've created.
I just re-read my initial comment and found an oops - I meant to say that maybe the olives will smack Tom in the face (not Jerry). But I think it's safe to assume that you got what I was saying anyway.
Thanks! Tom and Jerry are definitely favorites of mine, especially the old school MGM and Chuck Jones shorts. Definitely reminds me of being a kid watching it after school.
lol same, I used to watch it whenever I was at my dad's on the weekends, I think that somehow influenced me to go into animation in the first place (so we get to watch cartoons and such during class lol)

This is beautiful.. I really like the textures of the paper. You did a phenomenal job!
I've loved Tom and Jerry since childhood too. Did you use an animation cell or a photo for a reference? I recognize Tom's pose from an early/mid 1940's cartoon (I'm thinking maybe Flirty Birdy?) but I'm drawing a blank on where that Jerry is from. I used to know this stuff!
Thank you very much. I love the texture of the Canson papers.
I actually used VHS taped episodes as reference materials. I don't remember which episode(s) I used as I taped daily repeats of them for a number of weeks to get what I wanted (I got quite a few Chuck Jones era episodes, but wanted to do something older). Once I got what I wanted, I did a number of drawings based on the episodes I liked and selected this one.
