I made this bowl for my second oldest sister. Again, I’m not sure in which class I made this, it was one of the last two, but I know this piece was made after losing my two previous pieces. This night, our professor showed us how to make handles. I asked him if I could make horizontal handles rather than vertical ones. He said it was easier to make small vertical handles like the ones seen here.

I gathered clear glass, rolled it in pink and then pressed it in a fluted optic mold. I then blew the shape, made the switch to the pontil rod and then we added the handles. My professor makes it look so easy. One handle is slightly larger, but overall, I was really happy with the end result. It was nice to have a success after two losses.

Very nice - I love the mottled effect. And the curve of the rose stripes against the lighter pink is really visually interesting. I'm sure she'll love it!

I love the different shade of pink. :D

The stripes were made by pushing the hold glass into an optic mold. This caused the color to be concentrated at spots and caused the stripes.

Thanks. There is only one color on it, but by placing it in the optic mold and then smoothing out the shape, it concentrated the color into lines.
