Mulan by paperfetish Mulan by paperfetish
A mini sculpture of Mulan. This piece was made as a part of a larger sculpture for my new great niece Amelia. Mulan will accompany the regular cast of princesses for the final piece.

This is the first time I've made Mulan and am pleased with the results. I love the way the Canford black paper holds up to cutting and shaping. I think it does a great job capturing the fluidity of her hair.

Mulan is copyright Disney and is one of my favorite Disney films.

Thanks! I actually find human characters easier to make because I know what the shape of their forms should be.

They are easier for me to draw then cut, but the one thing I dread about people is doing hands. Oh my gosh it's terrible. That's why I'm glad ponies have no fingers xD

Hands are very difficult! Especially if you are working on a small scale. They aren't too bad when they are larger, but the little shapes, ugh, so difficult. Eye lashes and eye highlights are nerve wracking too.

My advice with people is to start with a fresh blade when working on the details of the face and hands. A fresh blade makes a big difference.

i completely agree, i wouldn't even attempt to cut any delicate details without a fresh blade. i save older blades for large parts that don't have to look absolutely perfect.

Wow! Mulan is by far my favorite Disney character, and I must say that you've done a great job here, especially the details on her face.

Thanks! I've said it a few times here, but I love the Canford black paper. It performs so well and is at least half the reason I love this piece.
