Artist's Comments

I made this piece during our last class. The glass was *really* low and I had to gather a few times to get enough glass with which to work, which was unusual for me because I usually gather way to much glass.

After gathering the glass, I rolled it in this funky green that is a little more acid green than emerald. I then blew it out and moved it to the pontil rod and widened the opening. I then took it back to the heat and kept the rim in the heat and spun the edge out. Once it was to the point I wanted, I pulled it out and held it vertically. I spun a little, which I wasn't supposed to do, and I ended up with slightly uneven fluting.

I love the end result. It is really level and the flutes look like a rounded star from above. I also like that this bowl is light as a feather because I used a small amount of glass. I made this pieces for my youngest, older sister.

I LOVE THIS!!! The color is to die for as is the shape (and the photo is not too shabby either)! It's a bold green and you could have easily overdone it but you achieved healthy spaces between each green "platelet".

Did I mention that I love this? Excellent job!

It sounds like the sound it makes when yer head smacks into loosely packed, moist soil. :D

Great. Now we have to come up with a name for this food, snowman, and binocular based religion. ~A-S-m-i-t-h

I teach glassblowing and this is a really great piece. I love your photography also, I'm always struggling with taking good pictures of my glass. What's your secret?

Thanks! I love this piece myself and am really proud of it. I like the overall shape and the way the color laid out. I also like your description of the color as platelets.

Thank you for the comment on the photo. I'm no photographer, but I am happy with the results of my glass photos. I certainly do a better job on them than on my paper sculptures.

Thanks! This is my favorite piece from class. I love how it turned out. Thanks for the comment on the photo as well.

WOW! Thank you very much! I'm really happy with how this turned out. It was the first time I actually go what I intended to make.

Thank you very much for the comment on the photo as well. I take all of my photos in strong natural light. Luckily, I get full sun all day in my house. I wait until about 3:30-4:00 and put my pieces in my front hall so I get really strong shadows. I then turn the piece until I get the angle I want and take pictures with my camera set on the macro setting and without a flash.

I do use Photoshop to balance the levels of the pictures as well.
