Catbus 2.0

The Catbus from My Neighbor Totoro. Done as a gift for Christmas. This piece is made from Canson, Canford and tissue papers. It measures approximately 4"x8".

This piece was a structural challenge as the Catbus's body curves in both the vertical and horizontal planes and I wanted to create a sense of space within the passenger section of the bus. It may not be fully clear in this image, but Catbus almost curls around Totro and Satsuki. There are also several levels in the trees as the Catbus's body is on one plane, its tail and head are in others and Totro and Satsuki are in another.

I made this piece before the Wonder Woman piece and is the first time I used tissue paper to represents clouds. I like the end result here as I feel it fits the image. I also used tissue paper to represent the light coming from the eyes of the mice.

I'm still haven't quite worked out how to get good photos of my pieces. I feel Satsuki gets a little lost on Totro's belly, despite being two different colors of paper.

I had a great experience making this piece. It presented some fun challenges and I had the pleasure of working with a great client.
