Belle version 2 by paperfetish Belle version 2 by paperfetish
Belle and the ever present dime for scale. Belle is about 3.50 x 2.5 inches and is made from Canson and Canford papers.

I'm happy with her dress, but am still not fully satisfied with her face. I always have difficulty with Belle. I fine the angle of her eyes difficult to capture. I'm ok with her eyes here, but her mouth is not so great, but I think it has to do with the scale and the thickness of the paper. It looks fine in person, but up close (the download view) it looks a bit awkward.

Belle copyright Disney.

I think I actually mean "Belle copyright Disney". I'll have to fix that.

Given how tiny that is I'm extremely impressed with the detail you've managed to get in this! Wow.

This piece probably took a few hours to do. I don't remember exactly. The more complicated pieces take a week or two to complete.

She's gorgeous. No matter what you do with their faces, it's rarely ever going to work out for you so don't get too frustrated. :) Working with something so damn small and detailed, you're allowed to have things not quite work out the way you want. :D The only suggestion I can make is perhaps to thin out her eyelashes a teensy bit, that way it'll open up her eyes a bit more. But, I've never made anything like this, so I don't really know what I'm talking about. XD Amazing work no matter what! (Oh, and that's not Cinderella. haha! :D) Bye!

Thank you. I'm not overly frustrated as I know the scale is much of the problem. Overall, I'm happy with the end result.

Your suggestions are good ones. The only issue is that cutting that fine of detail on this small scale. I tried to cut the eyelashes a little more thinly, but they just fell apart, this was the compromise.

Ah, ok. You should just cheat and draw the eyelashes on somehow. XD

Oh that would be cheating. I did that on the Tinkerbell piece, but didn't like it... I try to avoid paint or ink at all costs.

Concidering the scale I think you did an amazing job :D I mean not even the ones you can buy at the store (which are even larger scale) look this good!

Thank you.

The store ones aren't much bigger, but most of the details are printed on and the depth is created by layering. I like being able to create the volume and depth by shaping the paper.

I think she looks great! I know what you mean about the thickness of the paper though, especially on such a small scale... Could you split the paper? Some of it is thick enough to split it (so the front and back of the paper makes two pieces) without tearing up or affecting the paper too much... Of course, this only works on small sections of paper, which is what you need for the mouth....

Thanks! I like her dress and her hair, but I always have difficulty with Belle's face. It's not horrible, but certainly not the best work I've done.

I could split the paper, but I find that the paper is harder to cut. I have done it, but not often.

Maybe try cutting it, then splitting it and then "tweaking" it after... I don't know, but it's worth a shot...

I agree, it's the face... it's just not quite Belle. Her left eye seems larger than her right eye, and I think her smile is either too long or not wide enough. Plus it seems to tilt downward a little to the right (her left).

I did fix her (visual) right eye. I cut her pupil as a part of her eyelashes, which is why it looks bigger. Her lips are tilted to match the tile of her head, but on this scale it doesn't work as well. She's a bit of a Monet (looks better from a distance), but looks fine when with the others.

Yes, but I have to work out the background first. I haven't decided all the papers and color scheme yet.
