The quick explanation is that I cut out all the individual pieces of the image, shape them with various tools and then assemble them.

It depends. Characters like this can be done in about an hour. More complicated pieces can take well over a full time week of work.

So that's Canson? It looks more fibrous than usual and without the usual texture. Don't get me wrong - it totally works for this piece. Your great nephew will be so psyched.

I think it might be due to the age of the paper. The charcoal paper is nearly 20 years old. I only know that because it came from the very first paper sculpture I made back in school. The texture may have flattened a bit.
