Another part of the paper sculpture for my great nephew.

Baloo is made from Canson papers and is about 3 x 3.

The quick explanation is that I cut out all the individual pieces of the image, shape them with various tools and then assemble them.

does it take a long time?

It depends. Characters like this can be done in about an hour. More complicated pieces can take well over a full time week of work.

So that's Canson? It looks more fibrous than usual and without the usual texture. Don't get me wrong - it totally works for this piece. Your great nephew will be so psyched.

I think it might be due to the age of the paper. The charcoal paper is nearly 20 years old. I only know that because it came from the very first paper sculpture I made back in school. The texture may have flattened a bit.

20 years old? I'm not impressed so much by the age as much as I am that you managed to keep it in a safe place all that time and still find it. I keep things safe forever but that doesn't necessarily mean I remember where I put it! Nevertheless, its effect is great.

Yup, nearly 20 years. I have a plan file that holds all my paper and art supplies. It is large and has 5 drawers, so it is easy to catalog all my paper and supplies.

I don't think you realize just how jealous I am of your plan file.
